Frequently Asked Questions

Before you book your massage, here are the top questions I am most often asked (and the answers).

What sort of massage should I have?

It all depends on your massage goals! Relaxation Massage is for when you need to relax, unwind and let the worries of the day float away. Relaxation massage uses a variety of (often) slow techniques to help your muscles and mind unwind. Pressure can be gentle or firm, depending on what you find most relaxing.

If you have a specific “thing” to take care of, Remedial Massage may be for you.  You might have a sore back, be suffering from tension headaches, be having shoulder or leg pain etc, or can’t move or bend as far as you used to. Contrary to popular understanding, Remedial Massage does not have to hurt. There are some techniques that can be firmer than a Relaxation Massage, but also plenty of techniques that are very gentle. It’s about working with you and your body to achieve your health goals.

Both types of massages are great for promoting quality sleep, managing stress and anxiety or depression.

Can I claim for massage on my health insurance?

If you have health insurance with extras cover you may be able to claim for Remedial Massage. We have the HealthPoint on the spot claiming facility which means you can usually swipe at the time of treatment and only pay the difference. You will always be emailed a receipt  which means if you don’t have your card with you or are with one of the couple of funds that don’t swipe, you can claim afterwards directly with your fund.

Do you accept EFTPOS?

Yes! You can pay by EFT, Visa, or Mastercard when you come in for your treatment. Sorry, we don’t process Amex. We do also accept cash. Using correct change or close to is greatly appreciated.

Where are you?

You can find me inside 114-120 Fulton Road, Blackburn South, not far from the corner of Holland Road. Entrance to the massage room is via the rear carpark and you can park in any of the carparks labelled for Spark Massage Remedies OR Brave Health Group. There is a code to enter through the building gate which will be sent to you before each appointment, meaning you don’t have to worry about remembering it off by heart.

Where can I park?

There is on-site client carparking at the rear of the building. The massage entrance is also from the rear carpark making this a perfect and easy solution.

How often should I have a massage?

That’s a bit like asking how long is a piece of string. If you are recovering from an injury or are working through chronic muscle issues, you may have very different needs to a person who is looking for relaxation. With any injury or pain management my goal is to work with you to help you live your best life as self-sufficiently as possible. So, if more than one appointment is needed, I will be encouraging you to work towards stretching them further apart as you take more and more control of your own health.

How do you choose a great massage therapist?

Not all massages are created equal. And not all therapists treat in the same way. I often say that having a massage is a personal thing.  Similarly to a great hairdresser; when you find one that matches your style you need to hang on to them!

My recommendation is you look for someone who is a member of a massage association. Association membership comes with many standards of practice to be met including being appropriately qualified, properly insured and undertaking ongoing professional development.

I have a Diploma in Remedial Massage and am a senior member of the Association of Massage Therapists (AMT). I also maintain current Senior Level First Aid certification and hold Mental Health First Aid Accreditation.

Do I have to take my clothes off?

Usually, I will ask you to remove an appropriate level of clothing for your treatment after I have left the room, and only within a level you are comfortable with. You will be given huge towels to be covered with. During your massage only the area being massaged will be uncovered and will be covered again immediately afterwards.  Please be aware that your underwear always stays on. The removal of your socks is entirely optional to what makes you comfortable.
